Caribbean Food As Medicine

Sancocho, Sofrito & Kuchela (vegan)

Service Description

The Caribbean is a lush and sunny collection of islands bursting with thousands of plants that have medicinal properties. In the west we typically think of food and medicine as separate practices. In this class home cook Brandie Skorker will show us how what we eat IS medicine. Using herbs from Puerto Rico and Trinidad, join Brandie to learn about Caribbean plants like Culantro, Soursop and Yucca through delicious recipes. Attendees will help prepare one of the region's most popular stews -- a vegan Sancocho recipe -- and also make Sofrito and Kuchela. Leave with samples of all three dishes! This is a Kitchen Collaboration with Herbstalk. Herbstalk creates community events that connect people and plants. Through inspiring gatherings Herbstalk offers accessible herbal education, highlights the work of local teachers and businesses, and creates a welcoming space for people of all backgrounds. Our mission is to strengthen community connections and foster a love of the natural world. https://www.herbstalk.org
